Decision On Future Of Former Principal Who Questioned Holocaust Postponed

The Palm Beach County Schools Superintendent will postpone his decision to recommend that the school board not renew the contract for former Spanish River High School Principal William Latson.

According to the school district, Donald Fennoy had planned to do that at Wednesday's school board meeting, but Latson's subsequent actions require the district to investigate.

In a statement, school district officials say Latson "will be afforded all of his due process rights."

He was removed from his position, but remains an employee after news surfaced that Latson told a parent that he couldn't say the Holocaust is a factual, historical event and that not everyone believes it happened.

Meanwhile, the superintendent has nominated Omni Middle School Principal Allison Castellano to be the new principal at Spanish River.

The school board is expected to vote on that Wednesday and Fennoy hopes Castellano can start on Thursday.
