Kucherov Makes Lightning History As Tampa Bay Knocks Off Detroit

The Tampa Bay Lightning (52-13-4) knocked off the Detroit Red Wings (24-34-10) 3-2 on Saturday night at Amalie Arena. Nikita Kucherov scored twice to set a record for most points in a single season by a Lightning player - he now has 110 points, passing Vinny Lecavalier who had 108 points in the 2006-2007 season.

Ryan McDonagh got the scoring started in this game, striking in the early first period to give Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead. Nikita Kucherov then had the record setting goal at the 11:56 mark of the first period that gave the Bolts a 2-0 lead. The second period was back and forth throughout, until the very end of the frame as Thomas Vanek scored at the 19:56 mark of the second to cut the Lightnin's lead to 2-1.

The third period saw Nikita Kucherov score again at the 13:53 mark that lifted the Lightning to a 3-1 lead. Though Anthony Mantha scored in the final minute of the game, that would be as close as Detroit would get and the Lightning held on to a 3-2 win. Louis Domingue got the win in net for the Lightning, converting 22 of 24 saves in net in place of regular starter Andrei Vasilevskiy. Jonathan Bernier took the loss in net for Detroit, going 30-for-33 in net.

The Lightning return to action on Monday as they head to Toronto to battle the Maple Leafs. Puck drop Monday is set for 7 PM - you can hear it all, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30, on News Radio WFLA.
