Lightning Get 10th Straight Win With 4-3 Overtime Win Against Rangers

The Tampa Bay Lightning (49-11-4) needed overtime but set a franchise record with ten straight wins, getting a 4-3 win over the Rangers (27-26-10) in Madison Square Garden in New York on Wednesday night.

The Lightning had a great first period, getting goals from Tyler Johnson and JT Miller to take a 2-0 lead. In the second period the Rangers began push back, as Mika Zibanejad scored to cut the game to 2-1. When Dan Girardi scored, Jimmy Vesey answered less than a minute later to pull the Rangers back within 3-2. Then at the 14:14 mark of the period, Boo Nieves scored to tie the game at 3-3.

After both teams went back and forth in the third period, this game would head to overtime in a 3-3 tie. Victor Hedman came through with the game winner at the 3:25 mark of overtime and the Bolts would have their 10th consecutive win. Andrei Vasilevsky got the start in net and went 33-for-36 in goal, while Alexander Georgiev went 26-for-30 in net for the Rangers.

The Lightning return to the ice on Thursday night in the second game of a back to back when they battle the Bruins. Puck drop on Thursday night is scheduled for 7:30 with pregame coverage beginning at 7 PM on News Radio WFLA.
