Tampa Bay Lightning Blow Huge Lead By Win In Overtime Thriller Over Flyers

The Tampa Bay Lightning lost a four goal lead in the third period,but found a way to score an effort goal in overtime to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers in an afternoon contest 6-5 in Philadelphia.  Tampa Bay was out shot by nearly two shots on goal in the game, but the one that counted came in overtime as Tony Cirelli found the back of the net after weaving through two Flyers defenders to earn a shot in front of the goal unblocked and buried it for the victory.

Following a scoreless first period the Tampa Bay Lightning, Adam Erne got Tampa Bay on the board capitalizing on the power play to make it 1-0 Bolts early in the second period.   Erne would have three points just in the second period as he added two assists in the frame as the Lightning built a 3-1 lead heading to the third on goals by Cedric Paquette and Brayden Point.  

James van Riemsdyk had the lone goal for Philadelphia in the second period.

Tampa Bay built their lead early in the third period as Tyler Johnson and Point scored only 11 seconds between goals, both on the power play as Tampa Bay held a stranglehold on the Flyers with a 5-1 lead.  However Philadelphia scored four unanswered goals in just over a six minute span to tie the game.  

Travis Konecny had a pair of goals in the frame, Sean Couturier and Wayne Simmonds finished the Philly rally as the game was sent into overtime where both teams shared the puck equally in a fast paced back and forth only to end on the stick of Cirelli.  

Cirelli carried the puck behind the net on a rush, fought through the push behind the net only to walk right in front of Philadelphia goaltender Cal Pickard and bury the puck top shelf for the game winner.

Tampa Bay was out shot in the game 45-26 as Louis Domingue gets the win with 40 saves.  

Tampa Bay wraps up their road trip on Monday night against Nashville.
