Lightning Fall To Carolina 4-1 In Preseason Opener

@jayRecher

In their first game of any sort since Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final, the Lightning lost to the Hurricanes 4-1 in their preseason opener on Tuesday night at Amalie Arena.

The Lightning fell behind 2-0 in the 1st after goals from Michal Cajkovsky and Lucas Wallmark, and before they could break through on the scoreboard, Valentin Zykov tipped a point shot from Patrick Brown at the tail end of the 2nd to give Carolina a 3-0 lead.

The Bolts finally got on the board when Mathieu Joseph tipped one past Hurricanes backup goalie Alex Nedeljkovic on the power play 4:38 into the 3rd, but that lead lasted less than three minutes because Andrei Svechnikov scored on Carolina's man-advantage opportunity to push the lead back to three.

Andrei Vasilevskiy wasn't his usual sharp self, stopping only 31 of 35 shots.

Petr Mrazek stopped all 9 shots he faced before being relieved by Nedeljkovic midway through the 2nd period. Nedeljkovic stopped 7 of the 8 shots he saw.

What's Next For The Bolts : The Lightning are back in action tomorrow night as they travel to Carolina to take on the Hurricanes. Puck drop is slated for 7pm with the pregame show starting at 6pm on NewsRadio 970WFLA.
